Storm Shelter

Storm Shelter

I captured this view of Deganwy storm shelter as the clouds started to gather in the late, autumn afternoon.

The shelter, on the promenade at Deganwy, was originally erected in 1904. By late 1905, the shelter had already fallen victim to its first storm damage. More recently, winter storms in 2013 – 2014 saw the shelter being badly damaged. Most of the promenade was washed away in the storms. Although major repair work was carried out to the promenade and sea defences, the shelter remained unrepaired. It wasn’t until 2017 when grants were secured to make repairs. The shelter finally reopened to the public in August 2017.
